If someone's rated at 90%, should they consider filing for Individual Unemployability (IU) to get paid at the 100% rating?

For those who are young and can work, I'd recommend against it. Over time, an additional retirement plan will outweigh the benefits of an extra $1500.

TDIU isn't a shortcut to 100% compensation. It serves veterans whose service-connected disabilities prevent them from working. If your disability hinders your ability to work, filing for TDIU could be appropriate. However, be aware that if you decide to work while on IU, your yearly earnings would be limited to below the poverty threshold, or around $15,000 a year.
