What makes the perks of having a DoD ID card different from what you get with a regular VA card?

It signs you up for DEERS and is kind of like having a retiree ID card.

The VA ID is for VA health services. The DoD ID card gives entry to military installations and access to many or some of their services. Although a VA ID can grant access to some installations, it might not work under certain security levels.

It's not a huge thing, but it's also government-issued so you can use it when you need a second form of ID too.
