question How difficult is it to get a VA mental health disability rating?

This is a veteran-related question from a JVHV member

Based on the talks I've had with fellow vets, one of the smoother paths, even if it starts at 0%, as that sets the stage for a potential rating increase through a higher level review, increase, or appeal. Haven't come across anyone who's landed less than 30% for their initial mental health award though.

The top priority is to make sure there's a mental health diagnosis on record from your military service along with the medical evidence to back it up for direct service connection.

Then, the rating will come.

Getting it isn't difficult with a service-connected diagnosis in hand! Just be transparent and truthful with your C&P examiner.

It's pretty much the same as any other claim where you have to show proof backing up your claim, like ongoing therapy and a solid treatment plan. Plus, it's got be clear to the rating specialist that it's connected to military service.
