It just seems a bit much as it covers a lot of irrelevant information to my claim.

You should mainly focus on page 3, paragraph 5, "of what the evidence must show to support your claim". Go down the list of what you're claiming on the left and the right will reference you to the correct table to use for evidence.

The instructions aren't too difficult, but if you still find it overwhelming, I would suggest working your claim with an accredited VSO.
