Hanging in there with my first VA claim, which we all know could really drag out. Don't have an official disability rating yet but I've got a ballpark of what it could be in mind. Is it too early to look into Social Security benefits?

Applying early is crucial to ensure that you have the work credits for SSDI eligibility.

I started claims with both the VA and SSA concurrently, which may have influenced the denial of my SSDI claim. I didn't recognize the distinct approaches each agency had towards disability claims and ended up treating them alike.

My claim with the VA was accepted, but SSDI was denied. However, I'm keeping a positive outlook for the appeal.

Upon recognizing a disability that will likely prevent long-term employment following your military service, pursuing SSDI/SSI benefits is a smart move. The application demands diligence, cautioning against premature submission that might skip vital stages, while also warning against delays that risk your entitled benefits.
