Any chance there's financial aid or programs for vets living in Texas who need to fix up their homes? I'm in a tight spot with a 4-bedroom for 9 people. Need to expand to better accommodate my family.

I believe there are mainly veteran benefits just for disability modifications, like adding ramps or widening doorways, but even then, it's hardly enough to cover adding extensions.

VA's off the table unless it's about disability upgrades. You might want to consider refinancing or going for a second mortgage.

The Texas Veterans Land Board offers a home improvement loan program that allows for borrowing of up to $50,000. You can qualify for lower interest rates if you have a 30% VA rating, too.
